Saturday evening the person in control of the remote control erroneously paused at the Glen Beck Show just long enough for me to hear that Trace would be appearing. Of course I already knew that, but the remote control operator didn't realize that until making the slight pause that made it completely clear among all in the living room, that Trace was about to grace prime time.
The result was that I got to hear Trace's interview with Glen and his performance of "Marry for Money". Trace didn't let me down with either. He was intelligent and articulate when responding to Glen's questions and his performance of the song was a pleasure to my ears. By the way "Marry for Money" is #21 on Billboard's Hot Country Music Charts this week and his album "X" is holding at #25, up from #28 last week.
Prior to Trace and band, "Sarepta Gentlemen's Club's" performance, Glen brought up the subject of "Until the Last Shot's Fired" and performing for the military troops. Trace commented on his experiences with the USO, saying that he has always come away feeling that the soldiers had blessed him in some way rather than vice versa. I know that Trace is wrong in that regard because I know some of those soldiers personally - they need and appreciate the attention of someone like Trace and even someone like you and me.
My "adopted" son, James is about to embark on his eighth tour of duty - this time back to Afghanistan. I called my daughter's house and heard him coughing in the background. "Would James like some homemade chicken soup," I asked. My daughter answered affirmative, but he leaves for the base at 6:00 p.m., please include the saltines, she instructed.
Along with the homemade soup and box of saltines, I included apples, oranges, Hall's Vitamin C Drops and Zicam. I swear Zicam works - everyone around me has had colds or the flu numerous times this winter - I've had a cold one day (24 hours). The hard part is - you have to use the Zicam you squirt up your nose. It's the only one that works.
I delivered the homemade chicken soup and Zicam, with the instructions that if it didn't work, he should fall back on the German cure.
"The German Cure?" he asked.
"Yes," I said, "it was developed by a German doctor."
My daughter said, "But mom, Ralf came up with that when he was 17."
"Yea but he is a doctor now," I reassured her.
"What's the German cure," our Marine asked.
"You stand in the hotest shower you can tolerate while guzzling the coldest beer you can find," I told him.
"That doctor is a genious," he said.
