Trace Continues Country Music's USO Tradition

Trace is about to embark on a trip to the Persian Gulf to visit U.S. troops as part of a tour sponsored by the USO and Armed Forces Entertainment. CMT says his previous USO tour of the Persian Gulf took place in 2002, and he also headlined the entertainment at the USO World Gala in Washington, D.C. He was awarded the USO Merit Award in 2007.
"I'm really humbled by the opportunity to spend more time with our nation's finest," Adkins said. "This is such an honor for me to be able to visit with our military and tell them how much we truly appreciate all the sacrifices they make for our country and our freedom."
Trace is continuing the tradition of some of our most beloved country music greats.
In the early 1940s, Gene Autry served his country flying C-47 cargo planes in the China-Burma-India Theater. When the war ended, "the singing cowboy" toured in the Pacific with a USO troupe, thus beginning the long-standing tradition of country artists traveling on USO tours overseas to boost troop morale.
In 1949, in partnership with the Grand Ole Opry, Red Foley, Roy Acuff, Minnie Pearl, Rod Brasfield, Little Jimmy Dickens, Hank Williams and others toured U.S. military bases in England, Germany and the Azores.
The USO sent Patsy Cline and Jerry Reed to Hawaii in 1960 to perform and shake hands with military personnel. Red Foley and Roy Acuff accompanied Bob Hope on USO overseas tours in 1961. Acuff toured again in 1962, traveling to the Eastern Mediterranean region for eight weeks, while modern country singer Johnny Cash went to the Pacific for three weeks.

During the Vietnam War, Roy Acuff and the Grand Ole Opry stars visited Vietnam and Thailand from 1967 to 1970. Roy Rogers and Dale Evans also toured in Vietnam.

It's A Good Time To Be A Trace Fan

According to Billboard, Trace's new single, Muddy Water debuted at 45 on the Country Music Charts the first week of its release. I am impressed with that showing considering I can't even find the request line for our local country station here in Charleston. It's like they don't want to be bothered with hearing what the listeners want to listen to.

But I will keep trying. I know when people hear it, they are gonna like it too.

Trace Adkins and 38 Special will join together to tape an episode of CMT Crossroads to premiere on Sept. 24. The invitation-only taping takes place Aug. 19 near Nashville.

You have a chance at being in the audience if you are a member of Trace Adkins' fan club. Club members received an email this week that they can enter to win tickets to the taping and to Trace's 5th Anniversary Opry Performance.

In addition to that Fan Club members have advantage buying when tickets go on sale for concerts and have a chance at back stage passes.

Trace Adkins, Dierks Bentley and Norah Jones are among the artists releasing concert DVDs from the Austin City Limits television series this fall. Adkins' full-length episode will be available on Oct. 28.

Best of all Trace will release his new album on November 25th.
